My wife’s birthday was not shaping up to be what she was expecting (thanks to an age inappropriate gift from her Mom and sister…), and I had to rescue it. I meticulously planned the entire weekend. To start with, I was going to have a Cosmo waiting for her Friday evening after work while she unwrapped her presents before a night on the town with apps at Wine Shoppe, dinner at City Tavern, and dessert at Cold Stone’s. A quick survey of the pantry found all the necessary ingredients – cranberry juice, Tito’s Vodka, Rose’s lime juice – but the triple sec was missing.
On my errands of placing the final touches on the weekend, I stopped by Frugal McDougal for a bottle of triple sec, or so
I thought. She arrived home from work and I was all prepared to mix her a Cosmo when she pointed out that I had bought peach schnapps and not triple sec. And an entire liter of it at that. Shit. Instead I mixed her a vodka tonic with a splash of cranberry juice, her second favorite. Fortunately, I was rescued by the spa package and Juan Montoya hat hidden underneath the wrapping paper.
Now what was I going to do with a liter of Peach Schnapps? It was peach season and a whole mess of them were in the fruit bowl. How about peach martinis? After several iterations with regular peaches and white peaches we came up with a peach martini recipe that worked. The key is to use a white peach for softer flavor.
- 3 parts Tito’s vodka
- 1 part pureed peach with simple syrup
- Splash of peach schnapps
- Mixed, shake, and strain
