Negra Modelo The Perfect Complement to Friendsgiving!
The Birth of Friendsgiving
The Holidays can be stressful. I mean, I love my family (and my in-laws are growing on me), but dang! The stress of watching what I drink, pretending that I like turkey, trying not to swear too much, and having to perfect every last detail of a dinner that only includes family makes me want to drink even more.
Why does it have to be so difficult? Why do I continue to have to answer the question about when we’re popping out babies? Why can’t I tell grandma that I quit my job to pursue my dream of writing?
Sometimes friends are just easier. Hence, we celebrated our first annual Friendsgiving – a judgment free drinking zone where nobody cares when we’re having babies.
In all seriousness, I do enjoy being around my family (even my in-laws). I also enjoy being around my friends. As we live in Charlotte where nobody is actually from here, we all go our separate ways come the Holidays, missing the opportunity to celebrate with our family away from family. Thus, some friends decided to get together this past weekend to celebrate Friendsgiving.
A few weeks prior to the event, Negra Modelo reached out to me and asked if I’d participate in their #perfectcomplimentcampaign. Knowing that Friendsgiving was on the horizon, I responded with a resounding “Absolutely, I’m interested!” Brewed in a Munich Dunkel style, I knew Negra Modelo would be the perfect complement to whatever the night would hold.
The only rule to our Friendsgiving was there were no rules (other than no drinking and driving)
The traditions of Thanksgiving were tossed aside and everyone was to bring a dish of choice. Fresh off our culinary adventure to South Africa, we made sosaties (curried lamb kebabs) and jalapeño pinwheel poppers from our fresh out of our garden jalapeños. Others brought flank steak sliders with horseradish mayo, a cheese ball that was amaze-balls, grilled chicken wings flavored with spices from the Butcher’s Block Kit Negra Modelo sent, cheeseburger dip, and antipasto plates.
Given that it’s a Mexican style Dunkel with light malts and a crisper finish, Negra Modelo was the perfect complement to the evening. Its versatility as a beer paired well with the wide range of food served. The sweetness of the malts balanced the hot chicken wings. The crispness perfectly washed down the savory and spicy flank steak sliders. And the malt and hops together helped clean the palate after the sweet and spicy sosaties.
Added bonus – its drinkability also helped carry us well into the evening past the dinner hour and into Uber hours. As I looked around the room, I was pleased to see even non-beer drinkers enjoying a glass of Negra Modelo and asking for another!
Thank you Negra Modelo for sponsoring our Friendsgiving. Negra Modelo the perfect complement to Friendsgiving!
As an added bonus, Negra Modelo has agreed to sponsor December’s Beer Versus Wine Challenge here on The Wandering Gourmand! Winner will receive the same tasting kit that was sent to me which includes the Butchers Block Spice Kit with four unique spices (Back of the Yards Garlic Pepper, Quebec Spice, Bicentennial Seasoning, and Bavarian Style Seasoning), Negra Modelo Cutting Board, Negra Modelo Tasting Glasses, Negra Modelo Pin, and recipe cards.

Nice work – how fun! I love FriendsGivings! Once again, your posts leave me hungry. At 10 a.m. On a Tuesday. And while not one for malt-ish beverages, this makes me want to try it with a meal like this.
You might want to start reading my posts while you’re eating. Just saying!
Friendsgiving – great idea! And anything that’s modelled on Munich Dunkel is just fine by me 🙂
Surprisingly, some great German style beers come out of Mexico. It’s just all about tequila down there. Notice I said style. They aren’t the real thing. They’re lighter, but fitting for Mexico. I wouldn’t want to be sipping a true dunkel on the beach in my speedo (there’s a visualization for you).
Wow, you’ll get me all hot and bothered before my next lesson! 🙂
I’m just a regular Janis!
You probably wouldn’t have replied if you were a regular Janis 😉
What a great idea. The pairings looked so delicious. Good people, good times, good food and good drink. What more can you ask.
Something for you to replicate at Christmas…
Love your Sosaties, they look great
I learned by watching the best!
