An Afternoon at the Charlotte Knights Stadium

Sunday was one of those days that helped remind me why I love living in Charlotte so much.

Neighbors invited us to go with them to the Charlotte Knights game, the Queen City’s minor league baseball game. It was Princess Day at the ballpark and little girls were encouraged to dress up in their best princess dresses to attend the game and run the bases afterwards. I realize we have a boy and that he’s a bit young to enjoy his first baseball game (or run the bases), but it still sounded fun.

At least to me it did… To Bryan? Not so much. He claims that he’d rather watch the grass grow than watch baseball. Plus, he whined that it would be too hot. However, I reminded him that he did promise we would go on our weekend Charlotte adventures and that the weather was going to by idyllic.

For the life of me, I can’t understand why the man in this relationship hates baseball but the woman loves it. But that’s a post for another day…. Maybe I should start a blog of my own? What do you think?

An Afternoon at the Charlotte Knights Stadium. The stadium had a surprisingly good selection of craft beer to choose from, plus going to the game is a fun day out for kids.

We were off to Charlotte Knights Stadium for our first ballgame of the season!

Because we had the stroller to contend with and our friends had two antsy little girls in princess costumes, we elected to buy standing room only tickets to allow the girls to run and us to stash the stroller somewhere.

Even though Deacon is a bit young to run the bases, we still planned to bring him down there with the rest of the kids after the game so we arrived at the stadium a little after the game started to allow for pre-napping.

Our friends were already in line with their daughters to take photos with the Disney princesses when we arrived.

While they waited, Mr. Gourmand had to sniff out the perfect craft beer. Surprisingly, the Knights Stadium has an awesome selection of North Carolina craft beer. Some breweries like Foothills Brewing, Old Mecklenburg Brewery, and Natty Greene Brewery even have their own stands. There’s also a larger stand selling I think 10 craft beers that had a huge line.

Bryan, however, sniffed out a food cart stashed in a corner with about six pretty rare craft beers (for a ballpark) and no line. He must have a nose for hops as he found the only Wicked Weed Brewing in the stadium.

Beers in hand, we headed to the grassy hill in the outfield with our blankets and enjoyed an afternoon of sun and conversation with our friends. Admittedly, the view wasn’t the best, but you really can’t argue with $9 tickets, sunny skies, and temperatures in the mid-seventies. Check out the photos with Charlotte’s amazing skyline in the background!

Apparently, the game was quite exciting though.

Maybe a little too exciting as the Charlotte Knights lost the lead in the 9th inning but tying it to send the game into extra innings. In the end, they ended up losing in the 12th.

Sadly, we missed the end though as the princesses exploded into diva fits as we were waiting in line to run the bases (guess they were taking that whole princess role seriously…), and Deacon was becoming a little cranky from his teething. Thus, we moved the party to our house for an impromptu cookout.

Who else loves an afternoon at the ballpark?
